Sperrgebiet

An area designated by the canton or municipality where street prostitution is prohibited.

Auch bekannt als: Sperrzone, Verbotszone

A restricted area is a geographically defined zone where street prostitution is prohibited by cantonal or municipal ordinance. Typical restricted areas include residential neighborhoods, areas near schools, hospitals, religious buildings, and areas surrounding train stations.

In Zurich, street prostitution is permitted only in narrowly defined zones (Häringstrasse, Depotweg service booths). Bern permits it only in the Kocherpark area. Basel, Ticino, and many rural cantons completely prohibit street prostitution throughout their entire cantonal territory.

Indoor sex work (apartments, salons) is generally not affected by restricted areas.
