A salon is an establishment in which several sex workers offer their services in rented rooms under one roof. In contrast to a brothel, the salon operator is usually just a landlord and provides the infrastructure (reception, cleaning, security if necessary). The sex workers usually work independently and decide on their own clientele, prices and practices.
Saloon businesses are subject to licens in Switzerland (patent approval under the Commercial or Hospitality Act). Requirements include fire protection, hygiene, emergency exits, minimum room size and local restrictions (no purely residential zones).
