A performance box (also “sex drive-in”) is a structure for carrying out street prostitution under protected conditions. Customers drive their car into a separate box, which is designed in such a way that the sex worker can get out at any time or reach security personnel.
The model was established in Switzerland primarily in Zurich (Sihlquai 2013, today Depotweg/Altstetten) and Bern (Boxen Werkhof). The facilities include sanitary facilities, an advice center and 24-hour care. Studies show a measurable decrease in attacks compared to the classic street prostitution.
