HPV

Human papillomaviruses — a common cause of genital warts and cervical cancer. Vaccination is recommended.

Auch bekannt als: Humane Papillomaviren

HPV (human papillomavirus) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. There are over 200 subtypes—some cause genital warts (condylomas), while others can lead to cervical, anal, or oral cancer years later.

In Switzerland, the HPV vaccine is free for people aged 11–26 (cantonal vaccination programs); for older individuals, it must be paid for out-of-pocket or may be covered by health insurance. It protects against the high-risk types 16/18 as well as 31/33/45/52/58 (Gardasil 9). Recommended for all sexually active individuals, regardless of gender.
