HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Over 200 subtypes - some cause genital warts (condylomas), others can cause cervical, anal or oral cancer after years.

In Switzerland, the HPV vaccination is free for people aged 11-26 (cantonal vaccination programs), for older people you have to pay for it yourself or, if necessary, covered by your health insurance company. It protects against the high-risk types 16/18 and 31/33/45/52/58 (Gardasil 9). Recommended for all sexually active people, regardless of gender.
